The Ocean Race 2022-23 featured the most ambitious sustainability programme in the Race’s 50 year history. Check out what we did to help protect the ocean as we sailed around the globe.
The Ocean Race circumnavigates the world, journeying through some of the most remote parts of the planet. As they race, teams gather valuable information about the state of the ocean, including information about micro plastics, weather and the impact of climate change. At The Ocean Race we want to use our global platform to accelerate action for our marine world. One of the ways we are doing this is by reaching the decision-makers who can make this happen. This is where The Ocean Race Summits come in. Our current series of 12 Summits, which take place between 2019 and 2023, are helping to drive new and improved policies around the major issues affecting the ocean: lack of governance, lack of protection, and climate change. The series also examines whether giving the ocean ‘rights’ could be key to ensuring its future.
Relay4Nature is an exciting new initiative of The Ocean Race, which involves a baton passing between sailing teams and ocean advocates to shine a light on the urgent action that is needed for our seas. Relay4Nature has been created in collaboration with Ambassador Peter Thomson, United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, and aims to bring calls to action for the ocean to major global environmental and ocean summits across the globe. www.theoceanrace.com/en/relay4nature
