The race in 2025 will be the second edition of The Ocean Race Europe, following a debut event in the summer of 2021. It will build on the foundations of the inaugural race and will be held under the banner of “Connecting Europe” with a race course that stretches from the Baltic Sea, through the North Sea and English Channel, into the Atlantic Ocean before a finish in the Mediterranean Sea.

Racing will take place in the newest generation of high-tech IMOCA boats that foil above the water at record-breaking speeds.

The Ocean Race Europe will be more than a great sailing race. It is also a Race for the Ocean putting the restoration of ocean health as the key to sustaining life on our planet.

“This Race for the Ocean is also about creating real changes in policy for the Ocean, calling for a reset in the relationship between humanity and the Ocean,” says Richard Brisius, Race Chairman of The Ocean Race. “The Ocean Race Europe will support learning initiatives for race fans and school children while our on board science programme will collect data from the race boats for experts to analyse as they continue to learn about the changes taking place in our waters, from the Baltic Sea in northern Europe to the Mediterranean in the South.”

HIGHLIGHTS

The Notice of Race for The Ocean Race Europe describes an intense, immersive and engaging event with a strong focus on competive racing and ocean health and sustainability, all built around the theme of Connecting Europe.

The foiling IMOCA race boats will ensure fast, intense racing in 'fully crewed mode' which means four sailors, plus an on board reporter. At least one of the crew must be female and two nationalities must be represented across the race crew.

Specialised equipment will carried on board to provide water sampling data to international scientists, building on the science programme developed over previous editions of The Ocean Race.

The teams will be required to generate at least 30% of the energy used on board during each leg from renewable sources (solar, wind, hydro).

In addition to the crew rules, teams are required to have gender equality, diversity and inclusion policies in place, while the event will have a robust safeguarding policy.

On the water, racing will consist of the point scoring legs between host cities along with coastal races. Bonus points for in-leg competition will also be awarded.

On shore, each host city will have an Ocean Live Park fan experience with interaction with sailors and teams and engaging, immersive content around ocean health and sustainable practices.
