• Creating an electrifying pathway to the America’s Cup itself, the UniCredit Youth & Puig Women’s America’s Cup events are set to be some of the highlights of the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup in Barcelona, attracting the next generation of foiling superstars who have the perfect platform to showcase their talents to the world. Alongside the established six America’s Cup teams, a further six entries have been received from Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Sweden and Australia with all the teams undertaking extensive selection trials to uncover future talent.

  • Racing in each event took place in the world’s most exciting new foiling class–the AC40–all equalised with standard components in strict one-design monohulls. Skill, talent, perfect racing intuition, and dynamic foiling saw the very best rise through fleet and match racing. The UniCredit Youth America’s Cup Final took place in-between racing the Louis Vuitton Cup Final (Challenger Selection Series Final). The Puig Women’s America’s Cup Final was scheduled in-between racing of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match. Maximum exposure was guaranteed, and the next generation of talent uncovered for the world’s longest-running international sporting trophy–the America’s Cup.     The AC40 fleet was based along the Barcelona waterfront at the re-developed Port Olímpic to allow fans and spectators the rare opportunity to get up close to the AC40 racing yachts and engage with the athletes. Racing took place just metres off the beach in Barcelona with its natural viewing opportunities all along the extensive beachfront and racing was a real spectacle with fleet and match racing (one-on-one) for the spectators to enjoy.

    17TH SEPTEMBER - 13TH OCTOBER 2024

    The UniCredit Youth & Puig Women’s America’s Cup events took place through September and October 2024 with the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup starting after a practice period for all the invited teams on the 17th September 2024. The regatta ran through to the Final scheduled to be held on Thursday 26th September 2024 in-between flights of the Louis Vuitton Cup Final (Challenger Selection Series Final).

    The Puig Women’s America’s Cup started immediately after the conclusion of the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup with practice days starting from the 28th September 2024. The regatta itself started on the 5th October and ran through to the 10th October before the final match race on the 12th October 2024 in-between flights for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match itself.

    The timing of the finals in each category have been designed to offer maximum media exposure for the Youth & Women’s teams and will be streamed live to the world.

    FLEET RACES & MATCH RACE

    Both events began with six scheduled days of practice. The fleets of twelve teams each (Youth & Women's) was then split between the Group B – Invited Teams and Group A – the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup teams with the UniCredit Youth America's Cup beginning the fleet racing on Thursday 17 September 2024.

    The opening qualification rounds saw a total of eight races completed for both groups and the top three teams from each group progressed into the Final Series of four races to decide the top two finalists who go head-to-head in a winner-takes-all Final Match Race for the respective title and trophy.

    The Puig Women’s America’s Cup starts immediately after the conclusion of the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup.

    All six of the confirmed entries for the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup in Barcelona were fielding both UniCredit Youth & Puig Women’s America’s Cup teams. They represented their respective confirmed clubs from New Zealand, Great Britain, USA, Italy, Switzerland and France. The six remaining teams that formed the other side of the grouping came from Spain (Royal Barcelona Yacht Club), The Netherlands (Royal Netherlands Yacht Club & Royal Maas Yacht Club), Canada (Royal Vancouver Yacht Club), Germany (Kieler Yacht Club 3.V, Norddeutscher Regattaverein, Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee & Bayrischer Yacht-Club), Sweden (Royal Swedish Yacht Club & Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club) and Australia (Cruising Yacht Club of Australia). 

  • WHAT BOATS:
    AC40

    Racing for both the UniCredit Youth & Puig Women’s America’s Cup was conducted in the America's Cup teams' AC40s in very strict one-design set-up. The boat, its controls, sails, foils and mechanisms are all standardised, so the emphasis is firmly on race-craft, positioning and foiling technique. On the water, each team consists of just four sailors with two helms steering from the forward ‘pod’ and two crew members responsible for sail and foil trim sitting in the aft pods. Racing promised to be fast and furious with the AC40 capable of speeds in excess of 45 knots downwind and high 30s upwind.
