The inaugural Women's America's Cup and 3rd Youth America's Cup events are scheduled to be held in Barcelona in September-October 2024, in parallel to the 37th America’s Cup.

Paving the way to the world's oldest international sporting trophy, these events will have their time in the spotlight. Alinghi Red Bull Racing will field teams to represent Switzerland in both the Women's & Youth America's Cup events.

Unicredit Youth America's Cup: 17-26 September 2024

The 12 teams will be divided into 2 pools of 6 boats.
Stage 1: 3 days of 6 to 9 fleet races for each pool, the top 3 qualify for the next round.
Stage 2: 1 day of 3 to 4 fleet races, the top 2 qualify for the final.
Final stage: a single match-race, the winner takes all

Growing the sport and supporting sailors with their development has always been a focus for both Red Bull and Alinghi. So, Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s commitment to these regattas is strong, and I think it’s going to be inspiring to see these talents in action.

Hans-Peter Steinacher, double Olympic Gold Medallist and Board member of the Team.

The boat

Both regattas will be sailed on the AC40 foiling monohull in one-design mode. Boats will be provided by the organisers. AC40 stands for America’s Cup boat, 40ft long (11,5m). The foiling monohull looks like a scaled-down version of the AC75.
Top speed is around 45 knots (85km/h).
The crew is made up of four fixed positions: two pod-seats on each side of the hull. The power to trim the sails and foils is supplied by batteries, no human strength is required. There are two wheels (used alternatively!) and control buttons for the sails & foils.

The boats will be moored at the Olympic Marina in Barcelona.

Teams

The Defender and all Challengers must enter a team in both events.
Invitations allowed six teams and countries not represented at the 37th America's Cup to enter the Youth & Women's events:
- The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club of Canada - AC40 Team Canada
- The Royal Netherlands Yacht Club and the Royal Maas Yacht Club of the Netherlands - Team DutchSail
- Real Club Náutico de Barcelona of Spain - Sail Team BCN
- Kieler Yacht Club 3.V and Norddeutscher Regatta Verein - EmbRacing Team Germany
- Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club and the Royal Swedish Yacht Club - Swedish Women's and Youth AC Challenge
- Cruising Yacht Club of Australia - Team Australia Challenge
